I woke up about a quarter past five, and decided to go back to bed. At some point, I switched over from sleeping to a kind of meditation, but I kept my eye mask on, so I have no idea exactly when the power went out. I just know that it was around 7:30 when I realized my projection clock was no longer projecting the time on the wall.
On a work day, my uninterruptible power supply will keep my computer, one monitor, and the internet functioning for about 30 minutes. Enough time for me to shut it down manually instead of losing everything. Without my computer and monitor drawing power, the internet lasted a lot longer. How much longer, I’m not exactly sure because I don’t know when it started, but more than an hour.
The power was out until around 10. Not too bad of an outage, and it didn’t really impact my day since I’m on vacation. I got my Move U exercises done after the power was back on, which was nice because the exercises got me really warm and having the AC on was a blessing. I’m starting to do push ups and dips in this week of the level 2 Shoulders & Arms program. I’m doing the push ups on a bench and having elevated foot assist for the dips, but I think I’ll be able to build up strength for strict ones with some work.
My parents arrived a bit after 11 today, which gave me time to shower. Then we headed out to check out the Hitt Mountains from Mann Creek Road. Well, we stopped at O Honey in town first for sandwiches to take with us, and at a gas station to fill up. Then we headed out to Mann Creek Road. My plan had been to get as high as we could towards Sturgill, but there was road work so we turned on Fourth of July Creek Road instead and drove up that way for a while. They got to see some beautiful country, and we found a nice spot to stop and eat lunch. The sandwiches were very good. I got a peanut butter and honey that was delightful.
After eating, my dad wanted to hike a bit, so I used my GPS to find us a trail. It was a bit up the road. Well, the GPS thought it was a bit up the road. I’m pretty sure the GPS wanted us to drive up what is now a trail to get to another trail; instead, we parked and my dad and I hiked up a bit while my step-mom read her book in the car. The trail was steep. Not too far above the road we came upon a little pond and saw a snake in the water. Then we continued up the trail until my dad decided he’d had enough hiking; maybe two tenths of a mile, but with some serious vertical gain. We got a nice view and then went back down to the pond. Upon closer inspection, it was chock full of tadpoles, and there were a ton of butterflies and some large dragonflies as well.
I drove us a bit farther on the road, but at the next junction, I decided to turn us around rather than trying to find my way out. The GPS clearly didn’t know what was going on, and my gazette didn’t have great detail of the area. We had a reservation for 6 at the hot springs and I didn’t want to chance missing that. The drive back was gorgeous.
We stopped at the Mann Creek Store and Cafe to see if they had some non-alcoholic beer for me. There was none in the cooler, but my dad asked and they brought out two varieties. I decided to try the Coronas. I took us to the rest stop above Midvale to look at the Historical Site marker, and then took the back way instead of doing through the construction in the canyon.
Back at home, we had some time to unwind before it was time to head to the hot springs. We started at the hot tub, which was very hot at 107 degrees. I liked it, but it was a bit much for my parents. They liked the big, cooler-but-still-warm pool better. As Ambrose did. We stayed there until about 7:30. It was a good evening’s soak.
I’m going to run tomorrow morning. If I don’t drag myself out of bed at 5:30, then I’ll have to put sunscreen on and it will be hotter when I do it. I’m going to try for the early morning. I like having the time in the mornings. It seemed like Ambrose slept less and less every year. He’d always be up well before me, and only went to bed before me by a little bit sometimes.
