A bit of a slow start to my morning. I did the meditation again, and I think it’s starting to sink in better. That I’m starting to learn how to handle the emotions that rise and fall in my body as waves.
I bought my mother-in-law a birthday card yesterday, and putting it in the mail is what got me moving this morning. I should have brought my work gloves, but I wore my warm gloves instead. My neighbors were already hard at work updating our mailboxes. They decided we should have a single board mount like the one at the bottom of the hill instead of each box having its own pole. That sounded good to me, and I ended up staying to ‘supervise’ until all the boxes were mounted.
I mean, I did help a bit. There were two dogs that I helped pet. I took some screws out. I kicked dirt and moved rocks. And I engaged in conversation.
What I neglected to do was eat breakfast before I walked down. I did have a banana, but by the time we were done I was ready for some lunch. I fried up some Spam and had buttered toast.
I did some digging in the compost pile in the afternoon. I walked the circumference of my property. I dug up the chicory that had been growing in my driveway. I was going to mow it, but then I decided I didn’t want to deal with the sound of the motor. It was nice to sit on the dirt and dig with the immense quiet surrounding me. My neighbor drove by in her ATV and stopped by to chat.
I found a spider in the process of catching a fly. The fly was much bigger than the spider, but it was stuck. Its wings buzzed continuously, which is how I found it, by following the sound. I watched the struggle for a while. The spider couldn’t get too close to the fly because its legs were not all secured. At one point one of the spider’s legs looked injured, but it seemed to recover.
I don’t know what I’m planning on doing tomorrow. Walking the property, for sure. And that should give me an idea of what I might do outside. Maybe I’ll be inspired to mow. Or, I could clean the walls inside. It’s the time of year to get that done. I could get some book writing done. I can do just about anything I want, as long as it’s not driving.
