I slept pretty well last night, especially considering my period started overnight. I’m glad I decided to wear a pad, so there was nothing to clean up. I woke up a little after 5:30 and decided to go ahead and get up and get ready for my run. I was awake enough that I wasn’t going to fall back asleep in the time that I had.
Rather than running the high mile route, I decided to do laps on my road. I thought that two laps equaled a mile, but it turns out it’s a little more than two laps. I’ll be ready for that when I run tomorrow. Today’s mile was faster than Tuesday’s, but involved a lot less running uphill. I want to get used to running a bit before I do the big hill.
It was nice to have a little more time before work started. I am working my way through the movie See No Evil, Hear No Evil which my friend recommended. I didn’t think that I’d seen it, but now that I’m watching it, I feel like I might have watched it once before with Ambrose. It’s funny, well worth watching again if I did already watch it.
I got my exercises done over my exercise release/lunch time, and then walked to get the mail. I think I spotted some new flowers walking back from the mailbox. Maybe some of the myriad seeds Ambrose tossed into our yard last year did make it. I don’t really know what kinds he planted; a wildflower mix. I should see if I can find out what kinds I should be looking for, and when to look for them.
After work, I went outside to try and take down my disintegrating tarps. I got the one down from the “roof” but I need to get some cordage untangled from it before I can toss the tarp. I’ll take down the bottom one next, and I will try to do some repairs to the structure. One of the screws snapped clean in half, which explains why the walls are so saggy. And then I’ll look into what I can do to make a proper roof.
Family zoom this evening was quite convivial. We talked about the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit at one point. None of us could think of the name of the baby; I was going to look it up, but my brother insisted that I try to use my memory instead. I noodled it about and finally came up with the correct name (Baby Herman) by thinking of the opening scene which features the baby and Roger. My dad was impressed that I remembered the director’s rant at Roger’s failure to produce stars. And when they come out to visit, we’ll show my step-mom Hudson Hawk, since she hasn’t seen that.
After zoom, I went to the hot springs. I got more than 30 minutes soaking, and that was more than enough. I read more of The Way of the Hermit. I feel like Ambrose is reading it with me. I’m planning my Memorial Day camping trip with him in mind. He wanted to go up into the Hitt Mountains, and we never found the time. I’ve decided that’s where I’ll go camp. There’s a dispersed campground that I should be able to reach, and if not, then I’ll just find a spot at the side of the road like we did last year.
When I got home, I took some flower pictures. I tend to time my runs and walks, so it’s better to take pictures when I’m not on the clock. I did try to be careful about not staying still for too long though, because the mosquitos were probably out, and I didn’t want to be their dinner.
I’ve been listening to the band Rush lately. It’s a band that Ambrose loved, and introduced me to. It should be sad, but I find myself smiling as I listen to the music. Maybe I feel like he’s sitting in the passenger seat listening with me. I should download some more of their albums so I can listen when I’m out of cellphone range camping.
