Again, I woke before the alarm but didn’t get up. One of these days, I’ll just get up when I wake up. See how that makes me feel. I walked to check the mail, and then decided I would get my sweet potato slips into the ground. They probably won’t have time to mature, and I probably won’t be able to keep them sufficiently watered to survive, but I’m giving it a try. They’ll take 90 to 120 days to mature, so the likelihood of survival is low. But at least they aren’t going to just stay in my windowsill forever. They’ve got a chance.

Then I did my Move U workout, and then got showered and ate breakfast. I didn’t have much time before work started since I’d done weeding and planting and watering and exercise, but I felt accomplished.

It was a good day at work. Again, getting things done. I worked through some project questions with some project managers and had a chance to catch up with one of them, which was nice. At lunch, I drove to the transfer station to get rid of the smelly trash that had been accumulating since last week. Note to self; if you’re going to throw away a milk carton, rinse it out or put it in the plastic bag, not the cardboard bin. That thing smelled foul and I had to clean the whole bin when I got home so I wouldn’t bring the smell back inside.

I found an issue with a process at work that will interfere with my ability to create a report that I want to create. Hopefully it can be resolved without too much effort. Otherwise, I’ll need to figure out a workaround somehow. Maybe OIT will have ideas for a workaround.

Usually, when I get home from a backpacking trip, I have to painstakingly type out my handwritten notes. For this trip, I decided to try something different. I used a voice-to-text application on my phone instead of manually typing. I still need to review the output for errors (like it putting ‘Gator’ when I said ‘gaiter’ or it not understanding when I say ‘quote unquote’), but I did at least reread my notes in a timely fashion. I’ve got my list for REI ready to go.

I’m going to drive to Boise tomorrow. While I’m there, I’ll do some grocery shopping, stop at a fruit stand, and do the REI visit. My gaiters have a hole, and I want to exchange them if possible since I bought them less than a year ago. My trekking poles are getting aged and should be replaced before I break them. I’ll be on the lookout for breakfast bars, and a new compression sack for my sleeping quilt. I’ve tried just stuffing the quilt in my pack, and it never seems to work out the way I want it to. I always end up back at the compression sack. I just hope they have a style I like.

I’m not sure whether I’m going to get another training hike in before my next hike. I might not. I have a lot to do on Sunday to prepare for this next trip. I have to decide if packing or conditioning is more important. Or if I can make myself pack after a conditioning hike. I need to figure out my meals and repack them in plastic baggies so they take up less space. I’ve got plenty of dinners and lunches. I should check how many breakfast bars I currently have.

The moon was big and beautiful this morning. It made me think of the movie An American Tail, and the song the two sibling mice sing in an apart duet. Made me wonder if my brother might be looking at that same moon.
