I had poor sleep last night. I had a hard time falling asleep, and a hard time staying asleep. I got up around 3 and couldn’t fall back asleep so I got up and read a bit on the couch after taking some Aleve. I haven’t seen any signs that my period is coming, but I’m feeling some pretty intense cramping and I think that’s what kept me up.
I only did a half mile walk after the alarm woke me out of a fitful sleep. That did allow me to check yesterday’s mail, and getting outside for my walk helps me to start my day. I’m glad I didn’t have any exercises to do in the morning because the plan was to do Move U Office Hours in the evening. I had some black tea to help me function, as well as more Aleve to keep myself from curling into a ball of pain.
I may have taken a bit too much Aleve because I started to feel a little loopy while I was trying to teach my colleague about testing a new process. But overall, it helped me to get through work.
I had a meeting scheduled during my normal lunch hour, so I moved my lunch to accommodate that. That was one of three afternoon meetings today.
After work, I drove to my friend’s for her dog’s antepenultimate feeding by me. They’ll be back either late Friday or sometime Saturday, I don’t remember exactly, but I do plan to feed the dog on Friday. The dog has figured out that when I arrive, it’s food time, and he walks up to the fence line to greet me when I walk up to the house. I’m kind of going to miss that.
My leftovers were delicious. The whole thing reheated well, and the mixture of flavors and textures is just really good with this one. I told Ambrose that it’s a shame that he can’t taste this. That I never made something like this for him. I mean, I guess I kind of made something “like” it. The “Switchback Chicken” recipe we got from Backpacker Magazine years and years ago was essentially the same kind of thing but with grits instead of pasta. And no cheese. Still. He’s very much missing out on my cooking.
After dinner, I went outside and got through one wheelbarrow full of dirt before I had to get back inside so I would have time to shower, change clothes, and set things up for Office Hours. I really think that I would not be doing so well with the digging and relocation of dirt without the Move U program. I can feel my back muscles working as I work the shovel, but they’re working from strong positions. I’m not pulling or straining any muscles. I’m sore afterwards, but I don’t feel like I’m in danger of injuring myself doing this work.
The Office Hours this time focused on shoulders. We were working the push movement and focused on rotating the shoulder blades up and down. As I moved, I started to feel a greater connection to my scapulae. I’m going to be more focused on feeling it with every movement going forward. Especially tomorrow morning because after those isometric holds, I’m going to be sore.
I shared a song with my co-workers today. A silly ditty called Disco Snails. It came out in 2024, but it just started playing on my YouTube Music lately and I find it to be quite joyful. Though when I’m replaying it in my head the song Struttin’ from Thumpasaurus keeps trying to mix in.
There was a beautiful sunset this evening. I hope I’m able to sleep better tonight. I took painkillers not too long ago so they should be kicking in when I’m ready to sleep. My period seems to have different symptoms every month lately.
