I got up at 5:30 this morning. Day 1 of the new wake up time. I managed to take my walk just as my neighbor was leaving for Boise, so I got to say hello. I’m getting a massage from her on Saturday and she invited me to stay for cards and dinner afterwards, so that will be nice.
There were a couple of birthday cards in the mail, along with some bills, finally, for my eye surgery. I still haven’t gotten a bill from the surgery center, but at least I got the bill from the Retina place and the anesthesia. The bills aren’t too bad; about what I expected.
It was nice to have more time in the morning to get settled. I thought that I was getting a visit from a contractor in the afternoon, so I made a sandwich for lunch so I could eat before he arrived. But I got a text that he couldn’t come out today after all, so I took some measurements and pictures at lunch instead and he’ll try to work up a quote from that. I also emailed a couple other contractors and have a response back from one of them.
My friend recommended getting at least three quotes, so that’s what I’m aiming for. I don’t really know what I’m doing, but I’m going to give it a try.
There was a bit of a crisis at work. We discovered that some data that we should have been getting from a download was only appearing in that system days later, so our initial download was missing critical data, which in turn would create not only a great deal of manual work, but also delay things for our customers. I spent a lot of time doing manual data entry and a lot of time trying to figure out the best way forward to minimize the manual data entry in the future.
After work, I got right to making my Spam salad. I tried defrosting tomatoes to use, and it didn’t quite work out. Freezing them whole means they lose juice as they defrost. But they tasted fine in the salad, even though they were still a bit frozen. I’ll figure out a way to make it work. Maybe if I cut them while they’re still a bit frozen… I need to sharpen my knives.
Then I went to the hot springs. I read a little bit, and then started talking with some of my fellow regulars, and we ended up chatting for almost the whole two hours. I didn’t leave until almost 8. It was a good convivial time. There’s going to be a live band at their taco/Halloween event on the 25th, and I’m looking forward to some dancing. I think I’ll wear my chef costume. Easy to move in.
My bike shelter arrived today. I might try to put it up tomorrow after work, but I’m not sure. Maybe Sunday would be better. But the weather will probably be nicer tomorrow. I don’t want to put it too close to the deck because I might be having it redone in the next few months. But I want it as close as possible to have shelter from the wind from the north. Maybe I’ll scout it tomorrow and put it up over the weekend. I might have to skip my hike to get it done.
The box was placed in the box at the end of my driveway. Which, yes, is for packages, but this thing was twice as tall at the box and heavy to boot. I had a hard time pulling it out with no handles on the box. But I wrestled into the car, where it will stay until I’m ready to put it up.
