Woke up earlier than I wanted to, but I could have slept in because my dad also slept longer than he intended and we didn’t head out to Topgolf until nearly noon. Hopefully I’ll get a bit more sleep tonight. I might have to skip a morning shower, or do a real quick one. This morning I had to wait for my phone to get charged because I pulled the plug out of the wall by accident. I won’t have time for that tomorrow. Probably.
Topgolf was more fun than I thought it would be. I haven’t swung a golf club in years, so I expected to be comically bad. I wasn’t great, but I managed a few nice hits, and mostly was able to connect with the ball on the first swing. Mostly. My dad scored much higher, though I did ‘beat’ my step-mom’s score.
After playing, we headed back to the city. My dad hasn’t been to Lincoln Park Zoo, so we were going to go there until we realized how early it closed today and decided on walking around downtown instead. My step-mom and I mildly tortured my dad by doing some shopping at Macy’s. We both got sweaters and she also got a top. The sweaters are all fleecy soft and very warm. I’m going to be using mine this coming week as the temperatures drop.
We stopped by Italian Village for a little nosh. I had minestrone soup and we shared around some garlic bread. I couldn’t bring myself to try the beef carpaccio. Maybe next time. Then they dropped me off at my brother’s.
My brother arrived home soon after I did. He made some absolutely fabulous shrimp fried rice, which was very shrimp forward because he had a bunch of shrimp to use from what Dad and Claudia brought over for Christmas. It was all hot and steamy and just so delicious I had more than I was actually hungry for. We watched the first Kingsman movie and most of the second before I declared myself pooped and headed up to write this and get ready for bed.
My parents and I will try for the zoo in the morning, then we’ll meet up with my brother in the afternoon and go the Blackhawks game in the evening to celebrate Ambrose’s birthday. I’ve managed not to think about Ambrose’s birthday being tomorrow for most of the day. I wish he were just at home waiting for me.
