I woke a bit before the alarm, but stayed in bed until it went off. Then I made my decision. Today would be a writing day, and tomorrow I can hike. If I’m going to submit this short story for January, it needs to be submitted by tonight.
So I settled onto my couch in the dark and began to write on this month’s topic. I’ve now done this over a dozen times over the last year, but I’m still surprised when a story actually comes out. I wrote for a while, and then took a break to eat breakfast and hydrate. And to rest my brain a bit.
After a little more than an hour I got back to the writing and I finished my story before noon. That’s the earliest I’ve ever finished one of these. Every other time I’ve done this I’ve finished after lunch. Not this time. Before lunch! I was very pleased with myself about that. I don’t know if it’s any good, but it’s finished.
I did lunch after I finished, and then my Move U exercises. After that I got ready to go to the transfer station to dump my trash. I could have left my trash in my outdoor bin for another week, but it had the salmon skin in it. I didn’t want to leave that anywhere on my property and let it rot. After the transfer station, I headed into Weiser to do my shopping for the week at Ridley’s.
I’m finally starting to track what I’m spending, and I’m satisfied with this month’s expenditures. I’ve spent less than I’ve earned, and that’s good. There will be months that won’t be the case, like probably when I get my eye lasered in March. And go to the conference in March. And get my eyes examined for new glasses in March. Yeah, March is going to be expensive…
I also stopped by the local grocery in Cambridge to get some frozen vegetables since I prefer not to buy frozen things from farther away if I can help it. I talked to the checkout clerk about the sun being out, and how much we both want snow to come. My father-in-law in South Carolina is getting snow today, but I’ve got sunshine and mid-forties temperatures. No fair!
I bought a cucumber in Weiser and decided to use the mandolin to cut it up for quick pickles. As I got closer to the end, I accidentally sliced my right ring finger, right through the nail bed. It didn’t hurt too badly, but it bled. I rinsed it in cold water, then applied pressure and held it over my head for a while. Then a good wash with soap and a bandaid. Finally, I sat outside in the sun with my right hand held above my heart and it’s doing okay now.
I walked to check the mail after I ate dinner. Other than that half mile walk, today was a rest day. Well, and the exercises, but those are shoulder focused. I’m resting my legs today from their weekday hill climbs. Tomorrow, I think I’ll drive out towards Brownlee and hike up the road that I accidentally directed my dad up when he was visiting last June. I thought there was a historical marker up there, but we didn’t find it before the road turned us back. On foot, I should be able to figure the situation out.
In addition to a hike, I plan to do some cleaning, prep my breakfasts for next week, and get the photos on to my Day 2 Snowslide Lake writeup. And maybe work on the Day 3 writing. I’ve finished reviewing the videos. Next is rereading the notes and looking at the photos. All fun things to do.
