I woke up before the alarm this morning. I was still really tired, and I wanted to sleep another couple of hours, but I only had until the alarm in about twenty minutes so I got up and got moving. I walked, and then I did my shoulder exercises for the day. That left just enough time to shower and eat breakfast before work.

I wanted to call out sick just to take a mental health day, but I don’t think I’m quite at the point where I need to do that. Yet. I think I’m putting pressure on myself to do all the things, and it’s harder than it should be. There were less things on my list when Ambrose was alive to share the load. He would have already started mowing, probably, while I worked.

At lunch, I took a look at my newly planted sugar maple. I’ve decided to name the tree Candy-O. A name that Ambrose would have appreciated. The ground around the trunk was still a bit damp, so I decided to water in the evening after the afternoon sun had dried things out a bit. It might have been my imagination, but it looked to me that the leaves were perking up. Time will tell if I can keep this baby alive.

After work I had to cook dinner for the week. I’d made the choice yesterday, and I didn’t feel too bad about it today. I got to work chopping up my veggies, including some of the fresh green onion from my neighbor, and then I cooked the beef, and then the cheesy noodles. I’m pleased with the results. Though I think I could have had a bit more beef per serving. I’m stretching it a bit.

Maybe I’ll figure out something to do with the frozen beef short ribs for next week. I’m trying to make sure I get good iron in the weeks leading up to my blood donation on May 7th. Maybe I’ll have a bit of molasses in my morning tea. That’s a very good source of iron.

My tummy has been a bit upset today. I’m not sure exactly why. My lunch prep soup was good. Maybe it’s protesting the influx of chickpeas. It has been a while since I’ve eaten those.

I watered the tree after I finished eating dinner. I think the bucket method will also make it easier for my neighbors to water my tree when I’m gone, if needed. Just fill the bucket, easy-peasy.
