I stayed up too late last night. The energy that had spurred me to take down the fan in my living room persisted past my bedtime. I wrote a lot, and then talked to myself a lot, and cried a whole lot. Then I decided to read a bit in bed until my nose got unstuffed, but it wouldn’t get unstuffed so I eventually had to try to fall asleep with it stuffy.

I got up within ten minutes of the alarm going off and went outside to deal with the thistles that I’d seen the other day. It looked like some roots that I hadn’t quite dug out were spawning what they could in a desperate effort to produce seeds. I checked all the spots where I’d previously dug out and found a few more little ones, plus a few taller ones that I’d missed near the storage platform. Not a lot of thistles, but I’m glad I caught them. I’ll continue to keep an eye out.

On my front porch, I saw that the bird’s nest that had been nestled under the porch roof had fallen to the porch. It was empty. And when I looked more closely at the porch, I saw the tiny bodies of three baby birds. They hardly had any feathers. Their skin was transparent. It makes me sad. Poor little babies. My brother-in-law said he sees that happen frequently where he lives. I would probably see it more if I had more trees I suppose.

I finished the yard work before seven and had plenty of time to get ready for work. The workday went okay. I worked with an employee I’m still training on a project and had a few other meetings. We’re very close to approving a key piece of a project, but a few issues have cropped up that are outside the scope of the project but affect it.

After work, I decided on taquitos for dinner. Then I went outside and mowed. When I ran out of gas, I switched to my electric handheld trimmer. I had closed in on the rock pile which the mower cannot handle. Too steep and too rocky. I trimmed all around the rock pile. I’ll use the trimmer for under the deck as well since the mower doesn’t go very far under. Though I’m not seeing the kind of growth under the deck that I did last year.

I watered my new tree. The leaves are spotty, and I’m not sure what I can do about that or what the problem might be. I’ll have to do some research. I need a new hose. I’ve treated my current one too poorly and it’s finally developed a leak in protest.

I hope that I sleep well tonight after all that yard work. I really like having Ambrose’s pictures on my wall where I can see them with just a flick of my eyes or a tilt of my head. For this collage, I chose all pictures that I took myself. I’m technically in two of them, but I hid myself with other photos to focus on him.

This picture of the nest on the porch does include the poor babies, but it’s really hard to see them against the background of the porch itself.
