Last week felt so busy. I had choir on Monday and Wednesday, errands on Tuesday, hot springs on Thursday, a concert on Friday in Boise, and hanging out in Nampa on Saturday plus some shopping. On Sunday, I tried my best to do very little and not punish myself for taking the time to rest even though there are a ton of things that I want to do around my house. I’ve been just on the edge of being sick for several days, or I was reacting to the vaccines I got on Tuesday.
I also got my oil changed on Tuesday so that was a good thing to get out of the way before I got my Covid and flu vaccines and then went home to try and mentally prepare for going back to work after my vacation while my deck was being stained. I had hoped the staining would be done before I got home, but it didn’t work out that way.
Wednesday was a sectional practice, just the altos and sopranos (the tenors and basses had their own day). The last few years those have been held at the Cambridge Senior Center, which is nice and close to me, but this year they’re at the same place as regular rehearsal in Midvale so it’s a longer drive.
Thursday I found out that I had forgotten to send the email that I’d drafted switching that week from Wednesday to Thursday and requesting the rest of my October days. I ended up calling and confirming I could come in on Thursday and then sending the email after explaining why I hadn’t shown up Wednesday as originally scheduled. It was a nice time at the hot springs. Not a lot of people, but most of us were in the hot tub, chatting. I left a bit early because I wanted to get to bed early, but I ended up washing towels instead and got to bed a bit late.
I took off work an hour early on Friday so I could get to Boise in time to get to my show. I finally got to go to the concert that was the first one I’d bought a ticket for to go by myself, but ended up being the third show that I went to alone because it was rescheduled. The rescheduling also meant the opener was not Local H and Finger Eleven, but instead some band called Motorflower. It was okay music. I’m not going to be seeking it out, but I danced to it while most other people were just standing still like nothing was playing. Filter put on a good show, though I wouldn’t recommend an epileptic attend because there was a LOT of strobing. They played most of their classic hits and mixed in some newer ones, some that I’d listened to and others that were new to me. I liked that they said when the encore started instead of playing the game of leaving the stage and then coming back. Overall, fun show. I’m glad I wore ear plugs and I was amazed at the number of people who were NOT wearing ear plugs because it was loud enough to feel in my chest.
After the show, I spent the night at my friend’s house in Boise. He had forgotten I was coming, but it worked out. I got some food and we put on a movie and talked once he was done with his gaming for the night. I showered before bed to get the sweat off.
The next day, I headed to Nampa to hang out with my best friend and her son. After eating lunch and playing a bit, it was time for his nap. He let me read a story to him, even though I didn’t do it like his mom did. That was fun. While he napped, Erika and I had adult talk time. Then I got a few groceries before driving home. By the time I got home, I was exhausted from the cumulative effects of the past two weeks.
I’ve got some things I want to do around the house. Like digging a trench for the power line from the solar panel to the automatic lights. General cleaning. Maybe even some Halloween decorating outside. But yesterday, I prioritized rest. Low demands on self. I made this week’s breakfasts during family zoom, and then made dinner. And I didn’t get much else done, but I’m okay with that. This is the season of life that I’m in. The season will turn, eventually.
Hard to get through work today, but that’s just how it is lately. I’ve got plenty to do, but little motivation. I’m using training as a way to keep myself on task, and it does help to add appointments and invite my business analyst and walk her through the things that we’re doing so that she gets a sense of ownership and understanding of how it all works.
Choir was excellent as usual. I love singing in groups. And this is a great group of people to sing with. Plus I get hugs. Now I need to wind down and go to sleep.
