Hard to believe it’s already June. I’m planning to backpack on the Juneteenth long weekend, so I need to start getting ready. I think conditions will be good, but the trail I’m looking at is going to be a lot of uphill.

I slept in this morning. A frozen breakfast sandwich for breakfast because I didn’t make my oats yesterday. I’ve continued my treatment of staying warm to try and sweat out whatever illness I’ve managed to acquire.

I had some good soreness from yesterday’s hike. I was focused on landing on my toes and keeping ankles and thighs turned out, and I could feel how that smoothed out my downhill gait. I felt like I could have passed Ambrose on the downhill with that, and he was always faster on the downhill than me. Long term, I think this style will completely alleviate the ITB issues I’ve had.

I had a dream a whiled ago that told me the date June 6th. I’m curious to see what that day will bring. No doubt there are going to be events that happen that day, of some kind, somewhere in the world. I’m going to start that day with a hike, away from the world. I hope to summit Brownlee.

I’m looking at taking the Deep Creek Trail from Hells Canyon up to Six Lake Basin for my first backpacking trip of the season. I should probably do a night in the yard with the solo tent this weekend or next, test my overnight gear before I go on a 12 mile hike with ridiculous gain. And 12 miles back straight down.

I made pasta sauce for this week’s dinner after work. I blended kidney beans into the sauce for extra fiber and protein. Red bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, garlic, and a bunch of spring onions from my neighbor’s garden, plus a jarred sauce, plus the bean puree. Very spicy, and yummy. I also made up oats for the rest of the week. I think I’ll boil the eggs tomorrow morning.
