Today was a bit of a weird day. I woke with the alarm, but gave myself an extra 30 minutes in bed. Then I ate breakfast while tidying up my house. After breakfast, I went on a vacuuming kick until it was time to get ready for work. I was only going to go in for an hour or so to walk one of my team members through a process. I ended up troubleshooting a few other things, but then I was done.
I shut down my computer, I disconnected my email and chat notifications on my phone. I’m on vacation!
I completely forgot that I’d planned to go shopping this morning after work and before it was time to go meet my parents for lunch after they arrived in Idaho. They’re actually staying in Oregon, because that was the nearest hotel with availability. It’s a drive, but not too bad of one.
It felt good not to have to push myself to focus on work. I think this week will turn out to be a good rest for my brain.
I got more tidying done before it was time to head down to Ontario to meet them for lunch. I thought they’d stay there for the day, but my dad wanted to come up to my house, so we headed up. I got to have my step-mom in the car, which was nice. It’s been so long since I’ve driven someone else in my car. I’ve been a passenger or solo driver pretty much since Ambrose died.
Back at my place, we planned out our week. Tomorrow we’ll be checking out some back roads and see if it’s clear enough to drive to the Sturgill lookout. If not, then we’ll just have taken a nice drive through the woods. When Ambrose and I tried to drive up there, there was too much snow to get there, but I think that was earlier in the season. There might still be too much snow, but I’m hopeful we’ll be able to get close.
They’re going to sleep in a bit and take their time getting ready, so I won’t have to be ready for them until 10. I plan on getting up at my normal time because that’s the best time of day to run. Nice and early, before it gets hot. I’m staying up a little late, but I think I’m okay with a little less than 8 hours these days, as long as I get more than 7. Tomorrow is the out and back route. I might go for three miles; I’ll see how I’m feeling. And what the temperature is like. Though I do warm up quickly from the exertion – especially on the uphill.
I’m very glad that they are here and visiting me. Having people in the house was nice. We watched Hudson Hawk before they headed back to their hotel. Claudia hadn’t seen it before. My dad brought me some of my mom’s jewelry, which I deeply appreciate. It’s gold, so I don’t know that I’ll wear it often or at all, but it was hers. She always wore it.
The sunset’s putting on another show this evening. I wish I could stay up for all of it every night. I guess that’s one thing to appreciate about the wintertime.
