I woke up around 5 this morning, and I decided to give myself a treat. I turned off my 6 am alarm and set one for 7. Then I slept until 7. I’ve been working hard with running, and hiking, and mowing. Plus the Move U exercises. I think my body would have taken another two hours of rest on top of that, but I had to get to work.

I skipped the morning shower so I would have time to eat breakfast and get ready for work. It’s been hard to focus today. Today is my state service anniversary. As of today, I’ve been working for the state of Idaho for 17 years. And I didn’t know why I was feeling so emotional about that until I took my post-mowing shower in the evening. Ambrose is the one who encouraged me to apply for state jobs. In a very real way, he helped me get started at Idaho Transportation Department, and he supported my change over to Boise State.

It’s been super windy most of the day. I like the sound of the wind howling, but I did end up closing my bathroom door last night because the sound was so loud. I might do that again tonight.

I had some good one on one’s with my team today. I’m really pleased with the progress of my new person so far. Today was annual objectives review day, and everyone has made good progress on their goals.

After work, I gassed up the mower to find that I’d reached the end of the gas can. I decided to go ahead and mow with the partial tank and then go fill it up. I mowed for about 45 minutes, and I think I finally figured out a tactic for the strings. If I string three of the small green ones in, then they stay a while. One slides right out, two slide out pretty quick, but three stuck around. I’ll have to soak those in sets of three. It just seems like the thicker ones (maroon and blue) just snap really quickly. I finished up the “front” yard, and made some inroads on the rough section to the northwest. I think three more full tank sessions will see me done.

When I finished mowing, I rearranged my garden hose on its holder so that I can mow under it more easily when I get to that section. Then I drove into town and filled up my gas can. It’s so heavy now. I’m going to have to be extra careful when I next fill the mower. I might do that tomorrow even though I’m not mowing again until Thursday. That way if I spill, there will be plenty of time for it to evaporate from the outside before I start it up again.

I felt so down when I got back home. Maybe because the last time I filled up the gas can was the first time I ever filled up a gas can. Ambrose supervised me that time. So, instead of starting dinner, I grabbed some gelato from the freezer and ate some. Then I showered. And I still couldn’t decide what to do for dinner, so I just did a protein shake and a chewy bar. Then I worked through the Shoulders & Arms week 3 movements. I’m having some trouble with them. I’m trying to figure out how to do the scap dips on yoga blocks. It feels like my arms aren’t long enough to do what I’m seeing on the video.

I’m going to do a little staff spinning before bed. Not a full ten minutes. It will be bedtime soon. And I want that sleep!
