I woke up early today. And then I went on the regular mile walk for the first time in months, all the way down and back up the hill. The sunrise painted rosy colors all around me that brightened to gold as I walked. I got mail on the way back. The socket had arrived, so I would get to find out if my lawn mower still worked or not.
I changed out the spark plug, covered it, and then resecured the plastic cover with four screws. It was a bit chilly, so when it didn’t start I didn’t completely give up. Though I did look on the internet for retailers nearby that service this kind of mower. Closest one is in Ontario, which isn’t terrible. But I promised to try again when it was warmer out.
I ended up trying again at lunch after walking to check the mail. It was much warmer outside, and I was able to successfully get it running. I decided that I’d change the oil before I did any more mowing, so I did that after work. I purchased an oil evacuation kit, which worked well enough I think. I got most of the oil out before putting in the new, and I learned from a neighbor that I can take the old oil to the transfer station and dispose of it for a small fee.
Work went okay. I’ve got a lot of balls in the air, and I’m working them as best as I can. I need to focus back on querying some data. I played a bit of guitar today. I worked on scales a bit and some chords.
I had part social time and part reading time at the hot springs this evening. I’m making friends with more regulars. There was a bat clinging to the office porch; they figured it got lost in the wind gusts and they relocated it to the barn.
There are birds nesting on my porch again. The nest where I found a dead bird hanging just days before Ambrose’s stroke. I don’t know how to feel about that. Am I joyful with the return of life? Terrified that the poor things will hurt themselves again? The sight of it has stirred me up.
Tomorrow after work, I’m going to get some mowing done. I really hope that there’s no more mower drama for a while. Though I did learn there’s a small engine repair guy outside of Council, so if there is more mower drama I have a place to start. The new trimmer cord I bought isn’t as thick as I thought it would be. The DR measurements don’t match the measurements of any other brand so it’s hard for me to tell. I’ll try this cord, because it’s sharper, but it might just fly out like the maroon colored cord did. I’ll keep trying until I figure out a good system.
