One of the nice things about where I work is that we don’t have to work in the week between Christmas and New Year’s. Sure, I have to take some vacation days for the mandatory closure, but it’s a nice thing anyway.

At least, most years it is nice.

Some years, I end up getting sick for the whole dang break. And this year, I was just getting over a sick before break. I was almost well enough that I could plan a snow hike. And then I got sick again with one of those wracking coughs that is very hard to stop.

And lo for the whole break and even beyond, I have been stuck with this cough. It has evolved, and I feel like I’m getting better each day, but while one aspect improves, such as my throat no longer feeling as if it were actually on fire, another gets worse, like the cough itself, which is starting to keep me awake at night more frequently.

I kept myself on early bed time for the entire break, and I was sleeping between 10 and 12 hours each night. Now that I’m back at work, which is thankfully a work from home desk job, I’m sticking with the early bed so I can get at least 8 hours, counting the time I’m awake and taking more cough medicine in the wee hours.

I really hope that I don’t get this again next year. I’m hoping I’m getting all the germs from my new community this year and I’ll be better prepared to fend them off next year. Ambrose managed to dodge this cough, and I’m glad for him but also a bit jealous that he was able to avoid it.

I did manage to get all the coast videos up before the end of 2023, which was a goal that I had. I didn’t get much else done over the break, but I did get that done.
