I felt better about having the alarm go off at 6 and staying in bed until 8 than I’ve been feeling about having the alarm go off at 8 and staying in bed until 10.

I had a bit of a contemplative day. I had a phone call with my aunt last night. It was good to talk with her. She reminded me to treat myself as I would treat a good friend who had been through what I went through. Not what I did, what I went through. A terrifying experience of a mental health crisis.

I did a three mile walk today. I wasn’t trying to g as fast as I did on the one mile walks; this walk was about endurance. I still kept the pace under 20 minute miles, which is plenty fast for now.

After that, I should have eaten lunch and then gone to town to get a refill on my microwavable breakfast sandwiches from the grocery store. Instead, I dilly-dallyed on the couch. I took a few, well, I hesitate to call them naps, but perhaps that’s what they were. I didn’t feel like I slept, but I did have my eyes closed for a bit and felt refreshed and ready to go after. I felt like Ambrose was comforting me during the naps.

So I checked the power on the trike. Looked good. Then I got it all set and got my pack attached and rode off to town. The ride down was nice and easy. I passed by a couple walking. I parked in front of the grocery story, put a lock around one of my rear wheels in an excess of caution, and went inside to do my shopping.

It was on the way back that I learned the difference between a full battery and the battery level that I had. I kicked the assistance up to the max, level 5, and saw the power level on the monitor drop down to a single bar. I eased back and started to travel much more slowly. I kicked it up a bit on the paved hill, but by the time I got to the mailboxes, I was standing up and pedaling as hard as I could with the assist back up at 5 and the motor whining piteously as I barely continued my upward momentum.

Once I crested the hill, the power level shot back up, but the battery was clearly still low. I brought it inside to charge. It’s looking like i should probably recharge after every three or four rides into town. Say 10 to 12 miles. Because of the hill and the cold.

A long family zoom tonight. I got dishes done and dinner eaten during it, as well as some standing time. I’m waiting for the trike battery to finish charging before I go to bed. I might have to give up and unplug it for overnight so it doesn’t stay plugged in too long.
