I got up at the alarm and made good progress on the work I needed to get done if I wanted to have time to go for a hike today. No dawdling in bed today. I exercised, ate breakfast, drilled holes in a bucket to water my new tree, prepped breakfasts and lunches for the week. All before the end of family zoom. I did some of the lunch prep at the beginning of the zoom.
After the zoom ended, I felt I had done enough that I could take the time for a hike. I drove out to the Brownlee Campground and hiked the four and a half mile loop that’s mostly on roads. I focused on speed since the elevation gain was not nearly as much as going towards the mountain would have been. But I anticipated a lot of mud on the trail where the snow has been melting, so I went with the speed loop instead.
I picked out a feather from another place where two birds had clearly fought.

It was good to hike on my own. I talked to Ambrose, and to my mom. Sometimes out loud, sometimes just in my head. The views of the snowline were striking.

I removed the insoles from my Lems Boulder boots for this hike, and it gave my toes a bit of extra room, but not as much as I wanted. My pinkie toes still felt the pressure of the side of the toe box.
I ordered a new pair of boots today. I’m going to try some Xero hiking boots, in Men’s. The Xero’s I’ve had that were Women’s were too narrow, but I have a pair of athletic shoes from that brand that are Men’s and they work just fine. I’m hoping these new boots will follow suit or I’ll have to do a return. That will be a pain. Ambrose’s most recent hiking boots were Xero’s. He liked them.
I decided to defer dinner prep until tomorrow. I heated up a frozen chicken a la king dinner in the oven for tonight. Easier to do that on a Sunday than a Friday. Cooking Monday should give me five meals and see me through the whole work week. I did get my cleaning done. And I watered the tree. And did my second set of exercises. I feel good about getting a lot done today, but also tired.
