I slept in today. That was nice. Then I ate breakfast and got ready to leave the house. The plan was shopping in Weiser, but I had to pivot pretty quick.
When I backed up and then straightened out in my driveway, I could feel something was off about the way the car was moving. I got out and saw the driver’s side front tire was completely flat. I hoped that the short distance I’d driven on it hadn’t messed it up completely and I used my air compressor to fill it. It held all the way to the dealership in Fruitland.
They took a look and found a nail in my tire – not in the wall, thank goodness. They were able to repair it for about twenty bucks, which is so much better than having to replace the tire. My car is all wheel drive, so at this point if one tire needed replacing, I’d need to buy four. But not today!
I stopped at Bi-Mart in Weiser because I wanted to get some camp chairs for the trip with my nieces. My current camp chairs and getting pretty worn out and I only have two. Plus, they’re deluxe and take up a lot of room in the car. I figure if I’m going to be having two passengers and all the luggage that entails, I need to save space where I can. I’ve reduced the size of my “get home” box so it fits behind the driver’s seat, and these three chairs (which were only $10 a piece to my amazement) take up about the same amount of space as one of my deluxe chairs in the car.
Then some groceries from Ridley’s. I didn’t need much today. I did get more rice flour and bananas for the next batch of muffins. And some Pironi 0.0 NA beer. I wanted to get some blueberries, but they only had the small packages and the first one I picked up was moldy on the bottom so I skipped that. I got several frozen dinners and some hearty soups so that I can try and have more options on those nights when I have no idea what to do about dinner.
After I got home, I did my exercises. I’m on week 2 now of the level 2 Shoulder Impingement program. Then I went outside and mowed a gas tank’s worth. I’ve decided to replace the strings more frequently so that I can cut efficiently rather than wait until I’m down to nubs before changing them. I watered my tree and changed where I have the hose so I can avoid running over it with the mower. It’s already kind of breaking down. I probably need a new one, and I planned to get another one so I can have one hooked up to water the big trees and leave this one for the little tree. Now I just need to figure out watering my lilac once the summer heat starts in earnest.
I had chicken taquitos and a salad for dinner, and I’m just about ready to start loading the car with my trailhead camping and day hiking stuff. It’s going to be nice to sleep outside. I’ll have backup gear if any of my backpacking equipment fails. Worst case, I can always sleep in the car. I’m bringing some dessert/snacks, hot tea, and some seltzers in case I finish all three liters of water before I come home.
I felt proud of myself for addressing the issue with the car quickly this morning. I even called the dealership as I was leaving my neighborhood to make sure they’d see my car for this issue today. If they’d said no, I would have found a tire place to take my car to. And I thought about how if Ambrose were alive, it would be no problem to get the car to the dealership for issues, but now I either would need to take time off work or go in on a Saturday.
