Unless I’m actually sleeping outside where it is hot, I rarely feel too warm in the night. Well, maybe if I got to sleep with too many clothes on, or wearing socks, but last night I was wearing boxers and a t-shirt, and I woke up way too warm. Kick off the covers kind of warm. The kind of warm that Ambrose would experience. He always ran hotter than me. I’d use his warmth to bring my toes up from freezing, which also helped cool him off a bit. Even odder, it was rather cool last night.
I got up at the alarm and went for a run. I did 7 and a short half laps for 3.15 miles. My first mile was very slow, but my last one was under 12:30 so that was nice. The wind was blowing, but in a different direction than the last time I did laps. I prefer for the wind to try to blow me back when I’m going downhill rather than uphill, and that’s what it was doing today.
After the run, I stripped my bed since today is sheet changing day. Then a shower, and breakfast, and making the bed. I didn’t have too much time to hang around the house, because I had to get down to my parents’ hotel in Ontario so we could all go to Boise together. I managed to beat the construction and made good time.
The drive into Boise was also expeditious. We first went for breakfast at The Griddle on Parkcenter. They had a short-staffed kitchen, so it took a while, but I had ordered some orange juice so I wasn’t too hungry. That fresh squeezed orange juice is so yummy.
Then we went downtown and walked around. My step-mom wanted to do some shopping, so we stopped at a few stores before heading to the Basque block. On the way there, my left heel started hurting in such a way that walking was difficult. I managed to hobble over the Basque Market, where we had a snack and some drinks. I had cherry limeade, and they had wine. We shared some tortilla and my dad had soup. All the while, I was massaging my left leg, trying to ease the tightness that was causing the pain. Between the massage and some pain killers, I was able to walk for the rest of the day without limping. I’m going to need to do some more massage of that area and maybe pay attention to how I’m running. I should probably do some dynamic cool-downs post run.
Then we went to the Basque Museum and Cultural Center, paying to enter the exhibit area, which also got us access to the boardinghouse tour. The exhibits were very neat, and I enjoyed the boardinghouse as it showed a bit of what life was like. The women had such narrow shoes, I don’t understand how anyone’s feet could fit inside them.
Then we walked over to Freak Alley to take a look at the artwork. I sent my niece a few pictures because I’d taken her there when she was in town. And then we went to Leku Ona for dinner – and we got 10% off the meal as part of our admission to the museum. I had a nonalcoholic Clausthauler IPA to drink and Trout a la Navarra for dinner. The trout was delicious and reminded me of when Ambrose and I would buy trout from Costco and he’d cook it up for us. Though this trout was mostly deboned for me. It was a delicious meal. When we first walked in, another patron stopped me to ask if I was wearing Softstar shoes – it turns out, his boyfriend used to work there. I’ve never had anyone recognize my Softstar shoes before, so that was neat.
Then my dad drove us back to Ontario where I’d left my car at their hotel. We said goodbye, and I drove home through some rain and wind, but no construction thank goodness. The wind is howling outside right now. I’ve still got to do my exercises for the day before I can go to bed. My tummy is not being happy. I don’t think I’m going to do my shakedown backpack tomorrow. The weather has taken a turn for the worse, so I’ll probably do a hike tomorrow, and then pack up for the shakedown to take place next weekend when I get back from Las Vegas.
I’m thinking of trying the Sturgill Lookout hike again. The snow might have melted enough for me to at least get a little farther than I did last time. And with my leg acting up today, I’m not sure if I want to do the regular East Fork Brownlee trail. I’ll definitely need to do trash tomorrow. Possibly some mowing.
