I got up at 5:30 and headed out for my Tuesday morning run. I decided to go a bit farther than two miles, but didn’t quite make three. I’ll need to add something to this route if I want it to be over three. It was the straight out and back route, but I went down one of the long side roads that I used when I first moved here two years ago. When I ran it then, I ran past a field with three goats. Today, there were five goats.

Since I hadn’t gone shopping yesterday, I didn’t have my breakfast sandwich ready to go. I drank a protein shake before my shower, and then went shopping afterwards. I had a nice little chat with the mayor (who owns the local grocery store, and is often there in the early mornings), and I got my breakfast sandwich and a few other supplies.

While I waited for my parents to arrive, I worked through some Move U exercises. The movements for Shoulders & Arms level 2 week 6 are push ups and dips. I scaled both of those, but I’m feeling good about starting to work on those bodyweight movements with good form. I’m going to have to film myself to make sure I’m keeping in good form throughout, but I didn’t do that today. Maybe tomorrow.

My dad insisted that he drive us to Hells Canyon Dam in his rental rather than putting more miles on my vehicle, so that’s what we did. I sat in front to navigate and point out what sights I could. My step-mom sat in the back, but still got to enjoy a lot of good views. I’m glad we went out that way; it’s a beautiful drive and the dam itself is an awe-inspiring sight. We got out at the dam and walked around. Before we left, we ate some food at one of the picnic tables, in the shade.

On the way back, we went to the East Fork Brownlee Creek trailhead, with a slight misadventure on the way. I thought there was a historical site just up the road to the right, but it turned out to be a very bad road for a regular car. I’d rather take that in a Jeep, or even my Subaru. My dad handled it, and then we got to the Brownlee Campground, stopping for a pit stop, and then to the trailhead, where we all walked out just to the first stream crossing. It’s not far, but provides some nice views. And there were tons of butterflies around the water.

When we got home, we washed the cars. It was nice to get a little wet in the heat outside. Then it was almost time for Game 6, so we headed inside. Sadly, the hockey season ended tonight. I would have liked a Game 7, but the Oilers just didn’t have the spark. They couldn’t score a goal to save their season.

Tomorrow we’ll drive a bit in the mountains, most likely get stopped by snow before getting near a peak, and have the hot springs in the evening. I think I’ll stick to my running routine and not run tomorrow morning. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday is the routine. Though I’ll have to change that up for next week when I’m out of town. Well, maybe I could run at the hotel fitness center, but I think I want to focus my energy on being social instead of fitness. I’ll get plenty of steps walking around the conference, and my calves will appreciate a break from running.

The last time I was at the Hells Canyon Dam, it was with Ambrose and his parents. I wish he could have been here to take my parents. I haven’t had a good cry in a while. I wonder why that is.
