It was hard to get out of bed this morning, but easier than last Monday. I managed to convince myself to get up and go for the walk instead of staying in bed until it’s nearly time to go to work. Then I exercised; it was nice to get that done early.
I thought the chia seeds would have absorbed all the water that I’d put in my oats, but there was still some water in this morning’s jar. It mixed in well after I heated it, so while it was thinner than usual, I found it quite palatable. This was one of the jars that I substituted dried pineapple for the raisins in, and I liked how juicy the pineapple punks felt as I chewed them.
The weather was very nice when I walked after lunch. I wore a long skirt and one of Ambrose’s backpacking shirts for sun protection. There are a few more daffodils budding, and the lilac seems like it’s sprouting more every day. I hope some of those buds are for flowers.
After work, I went over to my friend’s house in town to get instructions on my upcoming stint of feeding their dog while they’re away. I’ve got notes on how to prepare the dinner, and I know where the water dishes are. In addition to meeting the dog, I also chatted with my friend for quite a bit, catching up. We see each other at the hot springs only irregularly. There will be some weeks where we see each other every week and then two months might pass without us running into each other.
I had dinner when I got home and skipped out on the post-dinner walk. I just didn’t feel like going out again. While I was eating, I paused to do some journaling. Something on the TV connected some dots in my head and I had to write what I was thinking about or I might not remember it later. I’m glad to be able to type that energy out, because if I had to write it out then I’d never be able to read it back. When I’m trying to write fast, the handwriting tends to get exuberant and messy.
I’m going to have to do my taxes soon. I might have done them over the weekend, but the tax bill I got recently for Ambrose’s error in 2024 put me off of doing it. I want to make sure I’m paid up in full for that before I file. And I didn’t initiate the payment until Saturday, so it should go through today or tomorrow.
It might be time to take the mower out this weekend and prep it for the upcoming season. I’ll try to do some landscaping where I can before mowing starts. I need to get out there and attack those holes that were left when my parents and I removed the rocks from that one section last year. The season is turning, and Ambrose is still gone. I’m headed inexorably to the second anniversary of his death.
