I got up and walked again this morning. It felt good even though I was slower than I like to be for a mile.
Today felt like a ‘just keep swimming’ kind of day. I’m doing the things that I need to do, and I’m taking care of myself and doing my best with the property. I did finally get another session of mowing done this evening. The mower runs just as well as it did before, and now I have a spark plug socket for next time in two or three years when this one dies.
I got a picture of the bird nesting in the porch nest. It’s tricky because when they see me pop up in the window they usually fly away right now. I’m betting the egg isn’t laid yet. It’s good that they are not haunted by the bird that died there.
I watered Candy-O tonight. She’s growing new leaves. I’m thinking of sticking to every other day while the weather is warm and dry. So, pretty much all summer. I should start hitting that section of the yard this weekend. I’ve got the low rocky part next, which is made even more tricksy by the overgrowth. I can’t see rocks until I’m nearly on top of them.
Ambrose would be proud of me for solving the mower problem. My next step would have been a mechanic, but I didn’t need to. Next time I’m going to try out the new trimmer cord I bought. I’m hoping it brings a bit more sharpness than what I’m currently using.
I can’t stay up late like this tomorrow, because I’m going to hike early on Friday. It’s getting to be that time of year when I want to be hiking as close to sunrise as possible so that it’s still cool while I hike uphill, only warming as I get within a mile or so of the car. That’s how Ambrose and I did it whenever we could. Sometimes we’d cowboy camp at the trailhead the night before because that was easier. And fun. As long as I’ve got bug repellent, I like sleeping outside without a tent. I don’t know if I ever would have learned that about myself if I hadn’t met Ambrose.
