I have not wanted to write for a while.

The night at the Brownlee Campground on Friday was good. Listening to the stream as I slept. I was woken briefly by some raindrops, but it didn’t rain enough to drive me into the car.

I started hiking the next morning just before 8. I took the road up to the trail junction and then came down via the Brownlee trail for a total of 8.25 miles (if you trust MapMyRun; the GPS claimed 7.88 miles). It was the first time I did that route in that direction. Last time I did it, I didn’t take the cutoff trail, and this time I did. There might be another cutoff trail, but it looked so steep I didn’t want to try it.

Overall, I felt like my body handled the hike well. My ITB on the right did cause some knee pain on the descent, but since I haven’t even walked for a month I was expecting that leg to give me a bit of trouble. I’ll be able to handle the route I’m planning for next week. It just might take as long as it did when we first started hiking the Frank instead of going as fast as that last trip. Ambrose did so good on that hike. He was doing so well. Until he wasn’t.

I have some new friends in the area. The kind of friends who like to talk philosophy and grow more food than they can eat themselves. I’m now flush with tomatoes and I really need to look into a chest freezer so I can keep more food. I like having veggies in the freezer. Especially when they were grown by friends and frozen by me.

The deck project is moving forward. I have a new contractor because my original guy had too much on his plate. The materials have been ordered and paid for. I wonder what we would have done with the deck if Ambrose had lived.

It’s still hard to get out of bed in the morning for work. Hard to figure out dinner. Sometimes hard to decide what to do for lunch. I’ve been taking sleep aids, which helps me fall asleep, but I don’t feel like I wake up rested.

There was a storm sweeping around on Saturday

night. I stood outside in sporadic drops staring at and taking pictures of a double rainbow. I even found the moon next to it.

I’m not sure what I need right now, but I don’t think I’m getting it.
